Simon’s Story

Contrary to the assumptions of many, Simon isn’t the name of one of our founders, or a link to some a secret holding company.

Simon was a successful merchant who thrived along the Euphrates River over a century ago. Sailing from village to village, Simon curated and traded the finest treasures and foods along his trade route. With it, he brought information, news, and education. 

He was renowned for his ability to anticipate the needs of local townspeople, and wherever he visited, a diverse crowd awaited him, eager for what he had brought. Farmers, craftsmen, artisans, and bakers alike all gathered around his boat.

While some attributed his success to special connections or secret tricks, Simon was the first to admit that his success was based on simple business fundamentals: understanding your markets, listening to your customers, building long-term relationships based on trust and respect, and always thinking one step ahead. 

Simon had the empathy to understand peoples’ challenges and the resourcefulness to apply the best solution. And because he saw the people he dealt with as friends and partners, he always struck a fair deal whether buying or selling. In return, they welcomed him into their world, saving their best products and most valuable orders for him.
